Many of the pictures in this blog will be of our sailing days at the beginning, time in port of Juneau (rainy Tuesday) basically just shopped and so no pictures of that. I didn't carry my good camera ibnto town and my cell phone camera didn't function. Wouldn't you know it that not far off the boat we see an eagle sitting on the top of a light pole where with my telescopic lens I could have seen his eye colore~! Juneau was where we were to do our helicopter to the Mendenhall glacier, but the rained out and cloudy conditions cancelled that for who had the trip in the middle of the day. Our guys then spent a couple of hours negoititing each of us separately into groups of two and five's for the next day in Skagway to go on this similiar excursion there around the other excursions we already had planned. So rather than all 9 of us together, we were just hoping that the weather lottery would work out at all... if you wait 15 seconds the weather seems to change in Alaska, so a lottery it definitely is for sunshine, clouds or rain..
from the glass elevators I snapped this going through the numerous storied Atrium.
from the 6th deck looking towards the glass elevators, always had music or entertainment playing in here
now bear with me, because as we sailed the landscape was forever changing, the blend of earth, sky sunlight or clouds, just made for shots I couldn't resist.. your only seeing a few, but there were hundreds of them that I and even Greg would take as we stood on our balcony observing it all going by.
a deck below us there was a couple who had just gotten married, dared to turn my camera over the deck and looking only through the viewfinder moved outside the camera, I captured this. aw how sweet..
This flock of birds I captured, but wait until much later, and see the close up shot I got~~!
clouds and sunlight against the mountain..
a whale spout just off of our balcony
Now I must say that I forgot to get a postcard of a whale breach, but this is really the extent of our "whale sighting" views, although we saw alot of this, non of them mesmerized us with an out of the water breach. But we've been to Hawaii and seen plenty of them there.
oops... repeat
Now as we were getting ice cream one afternoon, I captured this photo of a table of travelers as they were all gazing at something.. quite cute..
This is a cloud bank of deep white that would envelope us at times. a couple of decks below us, some young men called out "glacier" and we just laughed as they realized it wasn't afterall...
We arrive in Juneau, AK. view from our balcony
Lido deck 14 pool, two shots
Burdell and Greg on the front of the ship deck
Juneau view from the edge of the front deck
As we all were standing on our deck "bird watching" this eagles nest was detected. The white head of the eagle is on the right side of it.
This is the crap weather we left up to in Juneau, Alaska which does get it's fair share of rain..
As we pulled out of Juneau, the lights of the dock
This ship had "free style cruising" painted on the side, peaked alot of interest~!
Pulling into Skagway AK in the morning, the ship we passed the night before had beaten us into port.. those "freestylers" move quickly
We watched them unload all of their lifeboats in a drill and circled around until they loaded them all up.. Hydraulic check and Greg said it got an A+ as that's his business.
In Skagway, about the time I took this picture, Mom and Dad should have been flying to the glacier to walk on it. 9:30 am the weather was clear, 12:45 Gale and Jack just made it on a flight out to the glacier when they were flying out to get another group, but our 4:45pm flight was a no go, due to clouds... BUMMER as this excursion was the only one we REALLY wanted to do.. But glad the parents made it out there, they LOVED it.
We didn't know who this was, but in watching the History channel yesterday we found out this is part of the coast guard rescue team.
Our Adventure Park and Zipline tour, 4 girls and Greg went on this. His sister Kimm ~ hey brother... pay attention to the camerawoman~
sister Char, me, Sis inlaw Patty, and sister Kimm
the whole gang
Andrew, Adam, Ky, and Lilly.. traveling adventurer's between the lower 48 states and Alaska to pursue their love of summer and winter guiding.
all tuckered out!
I must say this was alot of fun, and it didn't start to mist and then rain until the very end of our time at the adventure park. And so when we got onto the bus, another group had just arrived and we were glad we had drier footing on all of the landing pads that this group wasn't going to have~
Well I am going to close this post and the next one will be of the Glacier Bay and/or the College Fjords
