On Wednesday after the election, a co-worker Nancy who is a supervisor on preload had a conversation with another co-worker of mine Lisa... and this is what Nancy told Lisa when they were discussing the election. We were stunned and blessed... not having expected it.
Nancy's statement; "I voted Yes on Prop 8, because my parents have been married for 50 years and for me or any of the rest of the gay/lesbian community to think we deserve the same rights and priveleges that God set forth in the bible is ridiculous. And it would be a slap in the face to my parents. I have a civil union for that last 12 years with my partner Sue. I got that only because when Sue was sick in the hospital, I thought her daughter who dispises me would ban me from seeing her in the hospital."
Now Nancy is a hard working individual, who truly has a coarse and crude use of language when speaking, and doesn't have much of a view of God for her life sppecifically. And honestly I've had to ask her many times not to say G-dammit when we are talking and she will laughingly acknowledge it isn't right and a bad habit. So for her to make this statement on prop 8, just brings up for me the point that some people who are in the midst of a sinful lifestyle can know they are outside of God's will and design, and yet be comfortable knowing that they are outside of Gods plan, but she has also an ability to know that Gods plan is right as it is laid out in scripture. The easiest part is to just continue to talk with Nancy, she knows we (my office room mate) are christians because we are always listening to talk radio KKLA, Jeannie speaks right to her about God's love, and WE DON'T talk like some of the rest of the office/warehouse employees in order to get our point across........ we don't blast her for being different, sinful, just love her and pray that the brokenness will be the talking point that gives us the opportunity someday..
